Dining at The Gem has been likened to dining at a private home. A private home with incomparable service and spectacular food at reasonable prices. Owner Josh Lelah brings a fresh, youthful, energetic approach to this venerable Carmel eatery. Their focus on superb service has made The Gem the talk of the town and a favorite with both visitors and locals.The Gem’s bistro-style dining room is highlighted by the warmth of a cozy hearth and the attractively set tables beckon the diner to relax and enjoy the hearty repast that is to come. Josh has created an interesting menu that artfully combines the best of European and American cuisine, The Gem can satisfy the most discriminating palate. Tucked away in a little courtyard, this surprising little find offers excellent food in an elegant, but not daunting, atmosphere, with lovely ambiance and attentive service.
The menu is relatively short, and no flights of fancy here. Super rack of lamb, outstanding sand dabs, duck breast, filet mignon...that sort of thing. All done with the freshest of ingredients, cooked perfectly, and served beautifully, at surprisingly moderate prices.
